Items used for Runewords must be gray text items, normal, exceptional, or Elite.Popular choices are Mage Plate and the lighter cloth and leather elite armors, since they have more defense than exceptional plate armor, can spawn with 3 or 4 sockets, don't slow running speed, and have lower strength requirements. Armor for runewords is usually selected based on the defense of the armor.
